Ronald McDonald

Today Ronald McDonald came to school to teach us about being safe in our cars and around roads.

Ronald told us to make it click.

He also showed us how to be safe when walking and crossing roads.

Always walk on the footpath on the house side.
Look out for sneaky driveways.
when we cross the road STOP!, LOOK! and LISTEN! before we cross.

Check out our photos below of Ronald McDonalds show.

MAKING INSTRUMENTS

We made musical instruments on Tuesday.  They made a  sound.
We hear sounds with our ears because the vibrations are travelling in the air around us.

SOUND LEARNING

This is what we are learning about.  COOL STUFF.

Ngā Rā o te Wiki - Days of the Week

Miss Yu - Science Experiment.

Miss Yu is Room 1's student teacher.
She has been teaching in Room 1 for 3 weeks and on Wednesday she took us outside to experiment with string telephones. Room 1 loved trying to get the right tension on the string to be able to hear their buddy talking.

We have been learning about sound and Miss Yu was showing us how sound can created through vibrations.

After our experiment Room 1 wrote stories about what they did and learnt.
We are enjoying having Miss Yu teach us. She is awesome!  Just like us.

Duffy Books- Brodie Kane

On Friday Room 1 received their first Duffy books for the year.  We had a lovely assembly with our visitor Brodie Kane.   The children really enjoyed her personality and learning about her and her achievements in life.  It was a great time and we love our new books.  I hope you enjoyed reading them with your children.

Below is the link to the Duffy Kids song we sing at these assemblies.

Brodie even posted about our assembly on TWITTER.

The coolest experience ever. Presenting to Manurewa Central School, such wonderful children!

CATERPILLARS

Today Room 1 made Grape Caterpillars.
We have been learning about the life cycle of a Butterfly.

We know the butterfly lays the EGG on a leaf and out pops a CATERPILLAR.
The Caterpillar eats lots of leaves then it gets fat.  It attaches itself to a branch and turns into a CHRYSALIS.  Inside the chrysalis the caterpillar is changing and turning into a BUTTERFLY.

Below is the link to a short clip that helped us understand how the life cycle of the butterfly goes.

Blog Guidelines for Parents / Caregivers

Blog Guidelines for Parents / Caregivers
Our class blog is a way for us to share our learning with other people. It is very important that we understand how to use the blog and the internet in a safe way.
The following guidelines are in place to ensure the safety of our students when blogging.
  • Photos, examples of work and first names, of class members may be displayed in this blog. Some children may choose to use a blogging nickname instead of their first name for added privacy. Last names, addresses and other personal details will never be used.
  • Parents who leave comments are asked not to use last names either. (Please post comments as “Tara’s mum” or “Ben’s koro”, etc.)
  • All comments submitted will be approved by the teacher before they are included on the blog. You are encouraged to comment directly to the children, asking them questions about their learning.
  • Proof-read your comments carefully. Students should have a family member check for spelling mistakes before submitting a comment.
  • Everyone in the class is encouraged and given time to write blog entries and comments. They are welcome to do this at home as well, with parent support. All posts need to be approved by the teacher before they are seen online. Posts will go through edits and revisions before the teacher posts them.
  • Always write in full sentences and words – we want to model a high standard of writing to the children.

If you have any other questions or comments about the security of our blog, please contact the teacher. We hold your children’s safety online as a high priority.
